Why do Football fans hate Taylor Swift?

NFL fans think Taylor Swift being at the games is ruining the NFL, but it's unclear as to why.

Taylor Swift has been consistently attending the Chief’s games since she and Travis Kelce started dating, and football fans have been up in arms about it. With claims of her being shown on the big screen too much and attracting viewers who don’t actually like football, Taylor Swift has been accused of ruining the NFL.

Swift has addressed this directly in her interview with Time Magazine when she was named person of the year. "I'm just there to support Travis," she said. "I have no awareness of if I'm being shown too much and p****** off a few dads, Brads, and Chads”. She also explains that her being at the games is for no reason other than to support Travis Kelce.

According to USA Today, Swift was shown on camera for 55 total seconds during CBS's Super Bowl 58 broadcast. That’s less than 1% of the entirety of the Super Bowl's runtime. It also appears that Swift doesn’t even know when she’s being shown. So why are people so angry at a woman who doesn’t ask for screen time, isn’t on the screen that much, and is just there to watch the game like everyone else? There’s something about Taylor Swift that leads football fans to believe that her very existence at these games is ruining football for them.

Football is a man’s sport, and Taylor Swift attracts more female viewers and more female opinions to the sport. It’s also interesting to see that Travis Kelce, who talks about Taylor Swift on his podcast and attends her concerts, has received almost no criticism for ruining the music industry. It’s also worth noting that every public appearance Swift makes is picked apart and overanalyzed because of her use of easter eggs on social media regarding her music. So Swift is no stranger to this type of criticism. What’s unique about it is that the criticism is coming from a predominantly male audience.

So no, Taylor Swift is not ruining the NFL. If anything, it’s more bothersome to listen to angry men rant about a successful woman who is doing nothing but watching the sport. This anger is disheartening for women who love football, and reinforces the old attitude that women have no place in predominantly male spaces.
